← MDifying document to Markdown converter

Convert PDF to Markdown

Drop a PDF and get Markdown back — headings as # headings, tables as Markdown tables, lists as lists. The conversion runs inside your browser, so the file never reaches a server and there is no queue, no account and no upload step.

What MDifying recovers from a PDF

A PDF stores positioned glyphs, not structure — there is no heading tag in the file to read. MDifying infers the structure from the layout: text noticeably larger than the body becomes a heading, runs of text aligned into columns become a table, and bullet glyphs become list items.

Because it is inference rather than a stored outline, it is worth a glance at the preview before you use the result — a document with unusual typography can produce a heading where you did not expect one.

Scanned PDFs and PDFs with no text layer

If a PDF has no text in it — a scan, or a photo saved as a PDF — there is nothing to extract, and most converters simply return an empty file. MDifying offers to read the text off the page images instead, using OCR that also runs on your device. The language models are served from this site rather than fetched from a third party.

OCR recognises English and Spanish. It is slower than reading real text and less accurate, so check the output before relying on it.

Limits

Up to 50 MB per file on a computer and 10 MB on a phone. Those are limits of what a browser tab can hold in memory, not account tiers — the number of conversions is unlimited and there is nothing to sign up for.
